Privacy Policy

NihongoLoop ("we", "our", or "us") provides a Japanese learning app with account-based progress, optional voice practice, advertising for free users, and optional premium subscriptions. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have.

Information We Collect
- Account information, such as your email address, account ID, and display name, when you create an account or sign in through supported authentication methods.
- App activity and learning data, such as practice history, progress, achievements, settings, streak data, and premium entitlement status.
- Voice-practice data, such as short audio recordings you submit for pronunciation or answer validation, generated transcripts, validation results, quota usage, and related attempt metadata.
- Subscription and purchase status, such as whether you have an active NihongoLoop Premium entitlement, as reported by the relevant app store and related subscription infrastructure.
- Advertising data for free users, including ad requests and rewarded ad events served through Google AdMob.
- Technical and device information that may be collected automatically by our service providers, such as app version, device type, crash or error information, and identifiers needed to operate subscriptions, advertising, authentication, and security features.
How We Use Information
- create and manage your account
- authenticate sign-in and keep you signed in
- sync your learning progress and app settings across sessions
- provide practice history, achievements, weak-item analysis, and other learning features
- process and validate voice-practice submissions
- enforce daily limits, entitlement rules, and rewarded-ad unlock rules
- provide premium subscription access and restore purchases
- show ads to free users and reward users after eligible rewarded ads
- maintain security, prevent abuse, debug issues, and improve the app
Microphone and Voice Data
NihongoLoop requests microphone permission so you can use voice-based learning features.
When you choose to submit a voice attempt:
- the app records a short audio clip on your device
- the clip is sent to our backend for voice or answer validation
- validation outputs such as transcript text, pass or fail result, word count, and related attempt metadata may be stored in our database
The app may also keep a limited local cache of recent voice previews on your device so you can review recent attempts inside the app. This local cache is not intended to be a permanent archive.
Do not use voice features if you do not want voice recordings processed for validation.
Authentication and Cloud Storage
We use third-party service providers to support authentication, hosting, cloud storage, and app data processing. Depending on the feature, data associated with your account may be stored or processed in systems operated by those providers, including:
- profile information
- settings
- learning progress
- practice history
- voice-attempt history and transcripts
- premium entitlement and subscription status
Subscriptions
Premium subscriptions are sold through Google Play and, where available, Apple App Store. We may rely on app-store systems and third-party subscription infrastructure to confirm purchases, grant NihongoLoop Premium access, restore purchases, and manage subscription status across platforms.
We do not receive your full payment card details. Billing is handled by the app store and related subscription infrastructure.
Advertising
Free users may see ads, including rewarded ads, through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and process data according to Google's own policies in order to deliver, measure, and protect advertising services.
Sharing of Information
We may share information with service providers that help us operate NihongoLoop, including providers used for:
- authentication and backend infrastructure
- subscription management
- app-store billing
- advertising
- voice or answer validation workflows
We may also disclose information:
- if required by law
- to protect our rights, users, or the security of the service
- in connection with a business transfer, merger, or acquisition
Data Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the app, provide features, maintain user progress, enforce quotas and entitlements, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes.
Some history tables are intentionally capped or pruned as part of the app's data-retention design, while other account data may be retained until deleted or no longer needed.
Your Choices
- choose not to use voice features
- decline microphone permission, though voice features will not work
- manage or cancel subscriptions through the relevant app store
- restore purchases through the app where supported
Account Deletion
If you request account deletion, we may delete or anonymize app-owned data associated with your account, subject to operational, legal, and security requirements.

Children's Privacy
NihongoLoop is not intended for use in violation of applicable children's privacy laws. If you believe a child has provided personal information inappropriately, contact us and we will review the request.
International Processing
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, depending on where our service providers operate.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we may update the date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice inside the app or store listing.
